The ABS (anti-lock braking system) is a braking technology that prevents the wheels from locking when you brake. E-bike ABS works in a similar way to the car equivalent: it monitors the speed of the wheels and automatically adjusts the braking power in order to prevent the front wheel locking or the rear wheel lifting. In short: you have an even more relaxed, comfortable and above all safer ride.

In 2023, only six Kalkhoff e-bikes feature ABS. These are the six models:

• Entice 5.B Advance+ ABS
• Endeavour 7.B Advance+ ABS
• Endeavour 5.B Advance+ ABS
• Image 5.B Excite+ ABS
• Image 5.B Advance+ ABS

Basically, the ABS on the Kalkhoff e-bikes consists of two sensors that measure the speed of the wheels, a control unit that processes the data and sends it back to the brakes, and a powerful hydraulic disc brake that brings you to a safe standstill. The technology comes from the leading Bosch and Magura companies and is perfectly coordinated. When you pull on the brake lever, the Magura components electronically reduce the brake pressure on the front wheel controlled by the Bosch e-bike ABS. This ensures safe braking on any surface.

No, because ABS doesn't require any special maintenance. Of course, it should be regularly checked for damage or wear and tear just like all e-bike components. Your Kalkhoff dealer will be happy to help.

There is an indicator light on your e-bike display. An LED indicator shows if there is an ABS fault or if ABS is working. When you start your ride, it briefly lights up, indicating that the anti-lock braking system is active.
