Leasing works in a similar way to cars. You pay monthly to use the e-bike and can purchase it outright at the end of the contract term. There are various options for leasing an e-bike. For example, you can lease one privately or through your employer.
E-bike leasing
One advantage of leasing an e-bike is the tax benefit. Lease payments for your e-bike are paid in full via your gross income. This has the benefit of reducing your gross taxable income. What's more, if you lease your e-bike via your employer, you are also free to use it privately.
E-bike leasing
There are various options for insuring an e-bike. Your household contents insurance pays out if a bike is stolen from your home or basement during a burglary. There are special insurance policies which also protect against accidental or drop damage, and vandalism. However, before taking out insurance, you should first check to what extent your household contents insurance already protects you.

Our frame styles at Kalkhoff:
Diamond (DI): Classic men's frame with the best mix of stability, low weight and sporty design.
Trapeze (TR): Sports version with a very stable frame, light in weight and a dynamic feel.
Wave (WA): A favourite with everyone — the low step-through frame makes the Wave particularly comfortable. Find out more about the benefits of step-through frames.
Compact (UX): Single frame height, many options — the Compact frame is suitable for all sizes and therefore the whole family.
This is how to find the correct frame size for your body size:
Body height = seat tube length = frame size*
<166 cm = 45 cm seat tube = S
164 cm — 186 cm = 50 cm seat tube = M
184 cm — 191 cm = 55 cm seat tube = L
189 cm — 196 cm = 60 cm seat tube = XL
>194 cm = 64 cm seat tube = XXL
Please note these are only recommendations based on our experience. We always recommend all customers visit a specialist dealer to determine the perfect frame size. This will help you determine the right size for you and to adjust your bike, handlebar and saddle positions perfectly.

A detailed explanation of how the model names of our e-bikes are devised and what the individual components and abbreviations mean can be found on the following page on our equipment options.
The total permitted weight of our bikes is 130 kg (5 Season models: 150 kg).
All bikes labelled “Plus+” have a load capacity of up to 170 kilos. The total permissible weight is calculated using the following formula:
Weight of bike + weight of rider + weight of payload = 130 kg (5 season 150 kg) or 170 kg
Weight information for our bikes and e-bikes is shown on the relevant product pages in the technical specifications.
All instructions and service booklets etc. are available for download here.
The easiest way to transport your e-bike is with a tow bar mounted bike rack. You should observe the maximum tow bar load. This is normally 50 or 100 kg. It is best to remove the battery and on-board computer before travelling, and keep them safe in the car.
If the car does not have a tow bar, you can use a bike rack for the car boot. Never carry your e-bike on the car roof, however, because of the slight extra weight.
E-bikes can be stored both indoors and outdoors in winter. A garage, basement, shed or carport is the best place to keep them, to protect from rain and snow. However, you should remove the battery and keep this at room temperature. The optimum temperature is between 0 °C and 20 °C. It is best to keep the battery at between 30 and 60 per cent charge.
No. We specifically do not sell bikes for children and youngsters. However, our range has all sorts of bikes with small frames, which younger people can use.
No, you do not have to wear a helmet on assist e-bikes up to 25 km/h. The general rule is that speed pedelecs over 25 km/h require a helmet to be worn. However! Please remember that wearing a helmet is still the most effective way to prevent head injuries in the event of an accident or fall. We cannot but recommend this, for your own safety!

The frame number is usually stamped near the motor mount, down tube, seat tube or under the bottom bracket. However, we also recommend making a note of the “S/N” number, as this is the only way to identify the bike at a later date. This is also a unique number and can be found on the white sticker on the bike's down tube.

Your dealer is generally your first point of contact for questions and any problems. In certain cases, you can also contact our customer service. Simply fill out the contact form in our service section or contact us by phone. You can also find valuable tips and stories from Kalkhoff fans in our huge Facebook community. Together we try to get to the bottom of the questions and problems.
If a dealer goes out of business or relocates, you can ask another authorised dealer to sort or arrange any business with our company. You can find dealer addresses for your area on our website.
In this regard, however, we would like to point out that dealers do compete with one another on the open market and operate independently. No one dealer is obliged to carry out a repair or provide a service for free. As a manufacturer, we have no authority to issue instructions to dealers. Dealers can of course contact our technical customer service and ask for assistance in rectifying any fault.
BATTERIES
There is no definitive answer to this question. Many different factors affect range. These include, for example, the level of assist, the way you cycle, your weight, tyre pressure and surface conditions.
No. Most rechargeable batteries contain lithium-ion cells and can be charged for as short a time as required. Interrupting the charge does not damage the batteries either.
You can charge your battery for as short a time as you like, regardless of the charge level. Even interrupting the charge does not damage the battery. This means there is no memory effect. Make absolutely sure, however, only to use the correct charger. Otherwise damage may be caused and this will also invalidate your warranty.
Yes, all our batteries are easy to remove from the frame using the key. We have put up some short videos for our current e-bikes where we show you how easy it is to remove the battery.
On some of our models, the battery cover is separate and can be fitted without the battery. If this is not the case with your bike, plenty o manufacturers, such as FAHRER BERLIN for example, supply neoprene protective covers.
When the battery is removed from the frame, the protective cover goes over the down tube. This keeps dirt and moisture away from the battery compartment and contacts.
ACCESSORIES
Before purchasing and fitting child seats, we recommend always checking with your Kalkhoff dealer first — they will have all the latest information on the compatibility and suitability of relevant products available on the market; you should also do this if you see it published anywhere that certain child seats are actually approved for certain bike models, or claim to be.
Bring your family with you in a single click! The MIK HD adapter plate is approved for child seats.
You'll find the MIK HD rear rack on many of our Plus+ models.

Plus+ e-bikes
Our Plus+ bikes have a total permitted weight of 170 kg. The total permitted weight is calculated using the following formula: 170 kg = weight of bike + weight of rider + weight of additional load. You can recognise these bikes from the "PLUS+" label.
The weight of our bikes is shown on the relevant product pages in the technical specifications.
The total permitted weight of our bikes is 130 kg (5 Season models: 150 kg). All bikes labelled "Plus+" actually permit a load capacity of up to 170 kilos. The total permissible weight is calculated using the following formula:
