ADFC Radwelt tested four compact bikes, including the Kalkhoff Durban Compact – without a motor: "As the only bike without a motor in the test field, the Durban's low weight is particularly impressive." Its ease of use, "fantastic frame that is easy to grasp" and outstanding ride characteristics were rated positively as well. It received extra plus points for:
- Comfort thanks to wide tyres
- Brakes and
- Value for money
Verdict: "Good ride characteristics, low weight and an affordable price: the Durban Compact offers everything you would expect from a compact bike. The pannier rack isn’t practical for everyone. Also available as a pedelec version."
