And what is more, we subject all the components we use to yet another test in our laboratory. Brakes
The brakes should bring the bike to a standstill quickly and safely in any situation. This is particularly important with fast e-bikes and pedelecs because of their higher speed. State-of-the-art technology, a painstaking production process and testing once the brakes are mounted on the bike are therefore essential. The hydraulic brakes, which delivery the best stopping power even in wet conditions, are supplied by Magura for example. Our developers devoted special attention to the design of Kalkhoff's own Verso fork. With this suspension
fork the brake is mounted behind the fork rather than in front, as is usually is the case. This meant they could make the brakes much more effective and avoid annoying brake squeal. We feel it is important to equip our bikes with the right type of brake for any situation in order to ensure safer cycling.
Exclusive offer from 2012: The rear safety light
From 2012, Busch & Müller are offering a real safety plus – a sensor-controlled safety light developed exclusively for Derby Cycle. As soon as the rider of a Kalkhoff Impulse bike brakes hard, the rear light brightens as a warning to following traffic.
Gears
Exercise and discovering the delights of the countryside, but also an easy commute to work in the fresh air, are pleasures that are only possible if your bike is in good working order. So that you can always select the right gear, and therefore the right speed, Kalkhoff uses gears from Japanese cycle manufacturer Shimano and parts from US producer SRAM.

Accessories
Perfection in the detail is the way we achieve the highest quality. So not only the gears and brakes come from the best suppliers in the world – leading manufacturers supply our lights, saddles and wheels. Lighting technology from Busch & Müller is used on nearly all Kalkhoff bikes. The precision workmanship and innovative design of the lighting systems mean they use very little electricity, which is generated by smooth-running dynamos.
We also use leather saddles from the almost legendary English brand Brooks, and puncture-resistant tyres from top-quality German manufacturers Continental and Schwalbe.
Powder coating
Besides perfect components, every bike needs tough, durable paintwork. Kalkhoff bikes are powder coated in our cutting-edge, environment-friendly paint shop.
This process involves baking plastic granules into the frame, which then form a top-class, tough finish.
